Frequently Asked Questions

What can I submit?

We will consider fiction (including both micro and flash fiction), poetry, creative nonfiction (including both micro and flash nonfiction), memoir, and hybrid/experimental works.  You may submit more than one kind of writing. Please submit written submissions as a Google Doc.

We also will consider artwork—photographs, drawings, even paintings if they can be digitized. Please submit photography and visual art submissions as JPG files.

How many submissions can I submit?

You can send us as many submissions as you’d like. Multiple submissions of different categories are also allowed. For example, you can send us a few poems, some photography, and a few pieces of flash fiction. Keep in mind that not all submissions are guaranteed to be published. We’ll pick the pieces that best contribute to our issue theme or major events/topics.

Does Hype accept academic essays?

We are less interested in considering academic essays, unless they are unique in structure or form.

I have a piece I’m considering sending to you guys, but it’s not finished. Can I still submit it?

Yes, we will consider works-in-progress. Please submit works-in-progress with ample time before our deadline and publication dates. If submitting works-in-progress, you will be expected to work with and follow-up with an editor.

What are you looking for? Is there a specific style Hype is known for or seeking?

We consider themes for every issue, but we are not seeking any particular style or form. Issue 1: Youth will be our first Issue as a magazine. Hype is very much in its early stages of production, your submissions to this issue will play a vital role in defining what Hype stands for.

What happens after I submit?

You will first be notified (please check your spam folder!!!) when we have received your submission. After careful review by our editors we will notify you if your submission(s) are accepted. You may expect to work with an editor on your piece. We reserve the right to make suggestions and work with writers and artists to make their piece the best it can be.

What is not allowed in the magazine?

We’re not interested in censoring writers and artists of creative expression but we reserve the right to decline material which the editors deem inappropriate.

How do I submit?

Email all submissions to hypelitmag@gmail.com. When sending us your submission(s) please write in the subject line your name and the type of work you are submitting. Please include a brief note if possible, describing the piece, or how/why you came to create it, or your creative process, or anything you might wish to include if we publish your work.  If the piece is a work-in-progress, you might wish to add a brief note about where the piece is heading.
